Herbal shampoo or bad hair day?

29th Mar 2010

The article in this month's issue stated: "Hair loss is a natural - although unwanted result - of getting older, and many people go to great lengths to stop it disappearing. Several herbs have been discovered to help in reducing the extent of hair loss and actually encourage healthy hair to grow faster".

The article went on to explain: "Natural herbal shampoos work by enabling the herbs to be absorbed into the scalp, and it's the effect of these herbs that lead to hair growth. The reason why home-made shampoos are proving more successful than their commercial counterparts is because they don't contain the damaging chemical agents that the commercial ones do."

The advice from Healthy Pages was: "Use a mild cleansing soap - like castile - that doesn't contain any petroleum products, with essential oils or herbal tinctures added".

Our view: avoid liquid soap

In principle, a liquid soap with herbal tinctures and essential oils sounds ideal, but I wonder if the writer has actually washed their hair in liquid soap. Unfortunately, those trying this solution may end up with a bad hair day.

I'm a true advocate of pure liquid soap - but not for washing hair (sorry Healthy Pages!). Liquid soap - with or without herbs - will leave a heavy residue on the hair, which will build up more and more with each wash.

A better alternative would be to buy an organic herbal shampoo that's been professionally developed to give great results. And it just so happens that we have just the thing!

Botanicals new organic shampoo (photo above) is certified by the Soil Association - so doesn't contain any harmful ingredients. And even better, contains botanically active herbal tinctures and essential oils. Click here to view the products in our online shop.
